LTA to look into supply of taxi, ride-hailing services in review of point-to-point industry

The point-to-point sector has changed substantially since the execution of the present licence framework for taxi and ride-hailing operators in October 2020, according to LTA.

Due to its” matching efficiency and ease of booking through wireless applications ,” it was noted that riders and owners are increasingly favoring ride-hailing service.

Fewer vehicles are operating on the streets as a result of the decline in demand for conventional car services.

At the same time, LTA stated that cars continue to play a significant role in serving high-demand areas like Changi Airport, travelers, and travellers who are less technologically savvy.

According to the Public Transport Council’s point-to-point transportation services customer satisfaction survey results released in February, passengers’ happiness with car and private-hire car services decreased in 2022, with the index for waiting period falling the most.

LTA has begun speaking with its partners, including the National Taxi Association, National Private Hire Vehicles Association and & nbsp, taxi and ride-hailing companies.

Bilateral partners” discussed the implementation of cleaner power vehicles and the significance of encouraging polite behavior among drivers and commuters” in addition to ensuring availability, resilience, and inclusivity of point-to-point services, according to LTA.

Where there are trade-offs to be made, we work to strike a balance between the interests of important stakeholders like users, individuals, and travellers.

LTA promised to get in touch with various passenger teams to hear their opinions. The assessment is expected to be finished by the second quarter of 2024.
