Three defendants who were found guilty of participating in the bombings that shook many areas of Bangkok and were thought to have been planned to insult the Asean international ministers’ summit being held there on August 2, 2019, received harsh jail sentences from the Criminal Court on Monday.
Although the maximum sentence served will be 50 times, words ranged from living prison, commuted to 40 times to 170 years.
Lu – ai Sae Ngae, 27, Wildon Maha, 33, and Muhamad Ilham, also known as Baeli S-i, 31, were named in the lawsuit brought by common lawyers.
The three plaintiffs were accused of creating improvised weapons and placing them in boxes and fruit cans between July 13 and August 2, 2019, along with 18 different suspects who were still at large.
They therefore detonated the bombs at a number of state locations, including the name sign for the Royal Thai Police company, the Pak Kret district office of the defense everlasting secretary in Nonthaburi state, and the Chaeng Watthana Road state business complex’s office.
At Chong Nonsi BTS Station and the gate to King Power Mahanakhon Tower, additional bombs were detonated.
On the morning of August 2, all but one of the weapons detonated at various times. One blast left two people hurt.
On July 31, the Asean international ministers’ meeting in Bangkok came to an end and was not interrupted. The 35th Asean Summit and relevant gatherings, which took place from October 31 to November 4, came after it.
On August 13, 2019, authorities detained two of the plaintiffs: Lu – ai Sae Ngae and Wildon Maha. Muhamad Illham, the another, was detained on September 2. They were accused of violence, unlawful assembly, attempted murder, attacks that resulted in fatalities and property damage, and possessing explosives illegally in violation of numerous Criminal Code provisions.
They denied the accusations, were turned down for parole, and were held at Bangkok Remand Prison.
On Monday, the three defendants were brought out of prison to discover the judge’s rulings.
Lu-ai Sae Ngae and Wildon Maha were each given life sentences by the judge. Due to their insightful claims, the sentence was reduced to 40 times and 4 months.
Muhamad Ilham, the second suspect, was found guilty on numerous counts and given a 170-year, nine-month sentence. According to the law, he has a 50-year jail sentence.
