Logistics company fined S$240,000 after accident leaves worker with amputated leg

A construction worker was given a 16-week prison term in another scenario for the death of another employee after he was involved in an automobile incident last year.

At the time, Muthukaruppan Suresh was a roller load operator. Arumugam Saravanan, the bereaved, worked as a lifting officer.

On April 22, 2022, Suresh struck Saravanan with the front left bottle of the vehicle loader as he was crossing a driveway for his morning break.

According to MOM, Saravanan fell and was struck by the cycle loader’s front and back left tires. After being taken to the hospital, he passed away from his wounds.

According to the government, investigations revealed Suresh was careless in his bike loader operator responsibilities.

It stated that Suresh would not have hit the deceased if he hadn’t raised the bottle so that his field of vision was blocked.

The incident” could have been avoided if the employers had put in place proper traffic management plans and ensured that employees adhered to these while following safe work procedures ,” MOM said in reference to the & nbsp Hoy San Stevedoring case.

Another instance involved a business that was fined$ 500,000 after it was discovered that it had continued to work while subject to an order to stop work.

On February 15, 2022, MOM gave the order to & nbsp, PT Construction after discovering several safety violations at its workplace.

Personnel working on the roof without any personal protective gear, numerous opened sides and floors openings from which people can fall, and the lack of permits to work for work-at-height activities were among the lapses.

About two months later, the company was discovered to be & nbsp, performing bricklaying operations at a high rate while the Stop Work Order was still in effect.
