As the search for people continues in a town in the county of Enga, thousands of people are in more danger of floods in Papua New Guinea.
The country’s crisis company said it feared 2, 000 people were buried by the disaster, a significantly higher measure than the UN’s 670.
Specific fatality numbers for the catastrophe, which tore through the town in the early hours of Friday, have been difficult to establish.
The fatal landslide’s scale is apparent in satellite images, and video footage shows eager rescue attempts, which are thought to be buried beneath the rubble.
