A hunter who was one of the two who shot and killed a man who had been cleared of the 1985 Bombing of an Air India flight was imprisoned for life in Canada without the possibility of a 20-year sentence.
Tanner Fox, 24, was sentenced on Tuesday by a prosecutor in British Columbia.
In October, Fox and Jose Lopez entered a guilty plea to the 2022 crime of Sikh business Ripudaman Singh Malik. Lopez may be sentenced on Friday.
Following a heartfelt day in which Malik’s family begged Fox to show who hired him to carry out the death, the sentence was delivered.
” We admit with you to show the names of the people who hired you”, said Malik’s daughter-in-law Sundeep Kaur Dhaliwal, according to writers inside the New Westminster court.
On the day before their first-degree murder trial, the two gentlemen entered innocent requests.
Malik was shot several times in his car outside his family business in Surrey, in the Canadian province of British Columbia, on the morning of 14 July 2022. Police found a burnt-out vehicle nearby.
According to the prosecution, Matthew Stacey claimed Fox and Lopez planned a “deliberate shooting” of Malik.
” They were financially compensated for killing him”, he added.
More than ten years after Malik’s horrific twice weapon assault, which was Canada’s most deadly terrorist attack ever, was cleared, the killing occurred.
On 23 June 1985, Air India flight 182 from Canada to India blew up off the Irish coast, killing all 329 people on board, most of them Canadian citizens visiting relatives in India.
About the same period, a second bomb exploded early in Japan, killing two baggage handlers
The bombings- commonly believed to have been carried out by Canadian-based Sikhs in retribution for India’s dangerous 1984 smashing of the Golden Temple, the holiest temple in the Sikh faith- remain Canada’s deadliest despair attack.
Following a two-year test, Malik and his co-accused, Ajaib Singh Bagri, were both acquitted in 2005 of large crime and conspiracy charges related to the two attacks, after a judge ruled that evidence against them was hardly credible.
According to the agreed speech of information, Fox and Lopez were hired to kill Malik, but the data did not reveal who hired them.
Malik’s community has urged them to work with the authorities to convict the killer, according to Malik’s home.
In her evidence to court on Tuesday, Malik’s daughter-in-law said the lack of solutions has left the family frightened for their health.
She told Fox,” This fear and anxiety comes from not knowing who hired you.” ” Are we next”?
According to Fox’s attorney, the 24-year-old was born in Thailand and was adopted at age three by kids in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Lawyer Richard Fowler has said,” It’s impossible to state where he went astray, went wrong in his youth that led to him being committed this terrible offence.”
In court, Fox stood off to apologise for his behavior.
” I’m sorry for all the pain and hurt that I’ve caused”, he said.
