Lawyer given another 2 years for lese-majeste

Arnon Nampa, a human rights lawyer, was found guilty of a lesser-known violence on Tuesday and given a two-year prison sentence. According to Thai Lawyers for Human Rights ( TLHR ), the ruling increases the amount of time he currently serves to 16 years and 2 months.

The second of Arnon’s five beliefs in the most recent event, which was published online on November 8, 2020, were the result of an open email Arnon wrote to His Majesty the King. The jury found it contained “untruthful comments” and sentenced him to three years, after reduced to two decades because he gave useful knowledge, his attorneys said.

Four other activists also face charges under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, the royal defamation law, for taking part in a campaign called” The People’s Letters”, organised by the pro-democracy group Free People.

Among the topics covered in the words was Royal constitution, which was expanded in the 2017 law.

On October 31, Arnon testified that his and other protesters ‘ remarks about the King were productive and intended to modernize the king.

Arnon has been detained since Sept. 26, 2023, pending appeals against all of his views, and his attorneys claim that he has been denied parole 31 days.

Since the start of the Free Youth demonstrations in July 2020, 1, 958 individuals have been charged for social participation and appearance, according to statistics from TLHR to October 31 of this year. At least 275 people are facing lese-majeste expenses under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, and 154 have been charged with sedition under Part 116.
