REPRIEVE  LONG WAITLIST,
More than 10, 000 individuals are on the list for organ funds, according to NTRC data.  ,
With 10, 197 people on the list, both adults and children, liver transplant people make up the largest party as of February this time. The list then includes those who require heart transplants ( 21 ), liver transplants ( 11 ), heart and lung transplants (eight ), and three patients who are awaiting lung transplants.  ,
More than 19, 000 people were on the waiting list for kidneys in 2015, according to a statement from the New Straits Times at the time.  ,
The number of persons on the waiting list for organ transplants may have decreased in recent years as compared to a decade ago, but this can be attributed to the stricter requirements being added to the list.  ,
Zaimi Abdul Wahab, chairman of the Malaysian Society of Transplantation, stated that while the list for donations from dying donors was previously available to people between the ages of 18 and 60, it has since been subjected to stringent selection.  ,
Patients who had been receiving treatment for 20 years would have originally quickly risen to the top of the waiting list for transplants, he said.
” However, we discovered that our effects were less favorable compared to those of other states after analyzing patient survival rates. Because many of these long-term treatment individuals were older, we had to change the system.
Zaimi claimed that a shift in the patient allocation system had led to a decrease in the number of individuals on the waiting list. He argued, however, that this does not automatically mean that less people are waited for kidneys.  ,
He claimed that the federal cardiac registration would include all dialysis patients, which had a total of about 50, 000.  ,
Adults between the ages of 18 and 60 are qualified for kidney transplants, and their estimated post-transplant survival ( EPTS ) score is used to calculate how long one was most likely to benefit from a transplant.
The patient’s time, diabetes, and length of time on dialysis are all taken into account in the score. Candidates with lower EPTS scores, or those with closer to zero, are likely to benefit most from a implanted liver.  ,
They will be able to get a kidneys from a deceased donor, according to Zaimi, adding that those under 18 are put on a paediatric waiting record. Those with EPTS less than 40 % are only considered to be ready for receiving a kidneys from a deceased donor.
People who aren’t on the waiting list can also receive kidneys from living donors.
There are no officially available data on the size of this team, or how many people succeed in getting donated kidneys from those who are dead, but the stricter criteria for the waiting list do suggest more people would need to get them.
The shorter waiting list than the previous one also means that Malaysia’s waiting period for a deceased-donor liver transplantation has decreased.
The typical rush was once as long as 20 times. Zaimi said it is now about 10 to 15 times, but he once more emphasized that looking at the bigger picture, this is not appropriate.  ,
” We still have over 10,000 people on the liver list every time, but only 80 organs are available. Some people on the list would have passed away because there weren’t enough tissues to donate, he claimed.  ,
According to statistics from the International Registry for Organ Donation and Transplantation, Malaysia has experienced variation in dying sponsors, with a subsequent upward trend leading to the death of 43 sponsors in 2023.
