Last 4 of 11 trainee lawyers who cheated in Bar exams withdraw applications to practise law

SINGAPORE: The last 4 of the 11 student lawyers who cheated in the 2020 Club examinations withdrew their own applications to practice law on Friday (Aug 26).  

The particular four are: Mister Sean Wong Wai Loong, Ms Joleen Ong Jia Yi, Mr Lim Zi Yi, and Microsoft Annabelle Au Jia En.

Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, who heard the applications in the High Court, ordered that the four not really bring a fresh program for admission towards the Bar for a timeframe of between nine months and 3 years.  

Ms Ong’s duration can be three years, Mr Wong’s two years, Mr Lim’s one year while Ms Au’s is nine months.    

Chief Proper rights Menon had previously heard and given the same to the initial trainee lawyer, Mister Leon Tay Quan Li, who experienced decided to withdraw their application in May . Mr Tay was barred from reapplying to the Singapore Bar or other jurisdictions regarding five years.  

Six others – Ms Monisha Devaraj, Mr Kushal Atul Shah, Mr Sreeraam Ravenderan, Mr Matthew Chow Jun Feng, Mr Lionel Wong Choong Yoong and Ms Lynn Kuek Yi Ting –  implemented suit   in withdrawing their applications on August 15. This was granted by Justice Choo Han Teck, exactly who did not set a period for them to reapply.  

The six had cheated throughout the 2020 Part W exams that legislation graduates must move in order to practise regulation in Singapore. 5 had communicated with each other and shared solutions in six of the papers, including one particular for “Ethics plus professional responsibility”, through WhatsApp.

The sixth, Ms Kuek, had colluded with another candidate in order to cheat on three papers.
