SINGAPORE: According to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority ( ICA ) on Wednesday ( Jan 3 ), large multi-purpose vehicles ( MPVs ) at the Tuas checkpoint may be diverted to bus zones to speed up immigration clearance for travelers.
This group includes MPVs such as the  , Toyota Vellfire, the Toyota Alphard, and the Hyundai Starex, Super Staria and Super Maxus.
The action, which was put into effect on Tuesday, was suggested by ICA to take into account the pause that big MPVs with more passengers cause.
The expert also observed that massive MPVs, which can carry up to 16 passengers but can also carry as many as 12, may function more like minivans or buses at checkpoints.
According to ICA  in a late-2013 Facebook post,” Diverting for big MPVs into the bus lanes will expedite immigration clearance for both large PMV and other vehicles, improving the overall experience for all travelers.”
It was also stated that smaller MPVs could keep removing immigrants through the auto roads.
