Koh Samui welcomes govt plans

Surat Thani: Tourism business providers on Koh Samui are urging the government to press forward with plans to market the island being a wellness destination and connect Khanom district in Nakhon Cuando Thammarat province in order to Koh Samui via a bridge.

Tourism and Sports activities Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakan and organisations over the weekend paid a visit in order to Koh Samui to this southern province to discuss the tourism circumstance.

Wanwalee Tantikarn, president of the Samui Spa Organization, backed the plan to push Koh Samui as a health holiday resort or wellness destination.

“Many tourists are now spending more attention to their own health. If Koh Samui becomes the particular country’s premier health and wellness destination, it will pull more tourists. This will benefit local people as they will have more wellness treatment options as well, inch she said.    

The group also talked about a prospect of creating a bridge linking Khanom district within Nakhon Si Thammarat province to Koh Samui to provide a brand new transport option.

The bridge might also help reduce the price of living in Koh Samui as all shipping and transport  might be done via road. It will not only provide a new travel choice to the island but additionally provide a more convenient route for locals, Witthaya Thongsuk, president of the Samui Association, said.  

Mr Phiphat mentioned the bridge’s structure would be supervised by the Transport Ministry, that has conducted a study into the proposal.

The record found that  the bridge would  benefit people in Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and people who live on the mainland and be really worth the initial outlay.

Mr Phiphat said revenue from tourism might achieve only 1. 2 trillion baht this year, the drop from one 5 trillion baht before the pandemic.

However , there are hopes the industry may bounce back as limitations continue to be lifted.
