Kim Jong Un suggests North Korea may begin COVID-19 vaccinations

SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has suggested the isolated country can begin COVID-19 shots in November, state media reported on Friday (Sep 9).

In a speech on Thursday night to the North Korean national assembly, Kim cited World Wellness Organization (WHO) warnings that the winter could see a resurgence in coronavirus infections.

“Therefore, together with responsible vaccination, we ought to recommend that all residents wear masks to protect their health through November, ” he said, without elaborating.

North Korea has not confirmed administering any COVID-19 vaccines, although customs information show that it offers imported some unspecified vaccines from China and taiwan this year.

Last month Kim declared triumph over COVID-19 and purchased the lifting associated with maximum anti-epidemic measures imposed in May although adding that Northern Korea must keep a “steel-strong anti-epidemic barrier”.
