On Friday ( Mar 14), Reform Party leader Kenneth Jeyaretnam received his ninth correction order under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act ( POFMA ) on Friday ( Mar 14 ).
According to the Ministry of Finance ( MOF), the Minister for Transport and the Second Minister for Finance, Chee Hong Tat  instructed the POFMA Office to issue the order to Mr. Jeyaretnam.
This most recent POFMA order comes after his Mar 3 Facebook post, in which he claims that the government consciously drives up property charges, including Housing and Development Board ( HDB) level pricing, to increase the value of Singapore’s resources. He claims that the government uses its stranglehold on land source and control of land need through immigration laws to do so.
The MOF’s speech refutes the claim.  ,
The government refuted Mr. Jeyaretnam’s claim in his Instagram post that the state does not use its land sales and immigration policies to raise land prices or boost the nation’s reserves.  ,
According to MOF,” the Government’s strategy to land control is based on Singapore’s planning and development needs, and it does not purposely raise property prices and HDB flat prices.”  ,
The government added that the president’s immigration guidelines are intended to reduce the impact of low birth rates and ageing on the people of Singapore.  ,
According to the government, the chief appraiser determines the fair market value of property based on accepted pricing guidelines.  ,
This considers “other related factors such as certain parameters of the page” as well as the appropriate selling transactions on the open market.
The ministry claimed that” the chief appraiser makes her judgment independently and without the government’s approval.”
The government added that Mr. Jeyaretnam was informed of these details through a prior adjustment purchase that was given to him on July 4, 2024.
