PUTRAJAYA: Kedah chief minister Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor was at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on Thursday (Jan 11) for about three hours, where he was believed to be assisting with an investigation over corruption allegations relating to the Kedah Football Association (KFA).
Sanusi was seen leaving the MACC headquarters at about 11.40am after arriving at 8.30am, but managed to evade the media waiting outside the premises.
When contacted by Bernama, MACC Investigation Division senior director Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed that the anti-graft agency took Sanusi’s statement on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the anti-graft agency confirmed that it would summon Sanusi to seek an explanation regarding the alleged corruption of more than RM6 million (US$1.3 million) linked to KFA.
Local media previously reported that the investigation was carried out after the agency received a report from a contractor who was promised a project in Kedah if they channelled funds into the account of the state’s football association.
On Jan 5, media reports said that the MACC had obtained a three-day remand order against four individuals aged between 40 and 60 years old, including KFA’s chief executive officer, to assist in investigations into the case of soliciting and accepting bribes of more than RM6 million in 2020.
