Johor reverting to Saturday and Sunday weekends from Jan 1, 2025

Beginning on January 1st, Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim announced on Monday ( October 7 ) that his weekend days off will be changed to Saturday and Sunday.

Since January 2014, the Indonesian government’s weekends rest days have been on Friday and Saturday so that Muslims can pray as per Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar’s decree. &nbsp,

According to Tunku Ismail in a Facebook post, the shift to Saturday and Sunday is made with the consent of the Sultan, who is also the current king of Malaysia, and after taking the recommendations of the Johor Islamic Religious Council into consideration.

Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the head of Johor’s government, and the mufti “discuss and research every angle and feature of this matter,” according to him.

The governor added,” I hope that Muslim staff have enough time and space to do Friday prayers in accordance with the authorities, the private sector, and related events.”

The Johor state government’s alleged review of its weekend days of was reported in 2022.

Onn Hafiz noted at the time that the government and the private sector both received grouse on various rest time.

He claimed that the state government may conduct a review so that both parents and their children could sleep at the same time. Johor’s primary and secondary schools observe the country’s weekend days away. &nbsp,

He added that the change may change some 576, 000 pupils and more than 1.7 million workers in Johor, about 93 per share of them in the private sector.

According to Johor Jaya legislator Liow Cai Tung, aligning the state’s weekend days of would also boost productivity and efficiency.

The federal government operates on a Saturday-Sunday trip, but some states like as Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu observe Friday and Saturday as standard trip relaxation time.
