Co-showrunner Alex Barnow informed EW patriarch Murray Goldberg, played by Jeff Garlin, will have passed away when the new season begins and newly get married characters Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Geoff (Sam Lerner) will have their first kid.
“This is going to be children that has not reconciled the fact that their father’s gone but offers sort of moved on and it has dealt with a lot of that, ” Barnow said. “So we’re starting with optimism about an infant coming and looking towards the future. It’s a possibility for this interesting emotional basis for the method people are behaving. ”
Garlin, who is also known as one of the stars associated with “Curb Your Enthusiasm, ” left “The Goldbergs” last Dec.
Co-showrunner Chris Bishop also talked to EW about the show’s pivot.
“It truthfully feels like a huge restart for us, ” Bishop said. “So we now have tons of momentum rolling into this new season. ”
George Segal , who played Albert “Pops” Solomon on the show, died within 2021 following problems from bypass surgery.
