Japan: Woman arrested for squashing bun in Lawson shop

A girl in Japan has been detained after allegedly leaving without buying the wheat bag after squashing a muffin at a convenience business.

Officials in Fukuoka, a city in southern Japan, confirmed to the BBC that the 40-year-old had been detained on Monday for” legal destruction.”

The woman, who said she was unemployed, claimed she “only checked the strength of]the muffin ] by pressing quietly with my hands”, according to authorities.

The woman reportedly touched a handbag of four cream cheese and sunflower buns. Police said one of the cakes was damaged after she pressed it with her proper fingers, and the whole case could not be sold despite the bag’s wrap still alive.

The owner of the Lawson convenience store, according to authorities, claimed he had previously witnessed the woman repeatedly squashing cakes.

The owner of the bakery spotted the broken bun as the woman left the store on Monday, asking that she pay for the bread. The bag of buns cost about 180 yen ( £0.95,$ 1.20 ).

She reportedly refused. After following her for 1km ( 0.6mi), the manager restrained her. She was detained by the police who arrived on the scene.

In recent years, police have been also cracking down on pranksters who have committed “sushi terrorism” in sushi conveyor belt restaurants, such as licking communal soy sauce bottles and squashing sushi meant for diners.
