Japan issued a storm warning for some coastal areas early on Monday( Oct. 9) in response to several small disasters that occurred in the Pacific Ocean’s Izu islands, but geologists said there were no immediate reviews of injury.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Tsunami waves of 60 cm hit Hachijojima area, 280 km north of Tokyo, and 40 and 20 cm waves were observed in the northern Kochi prefecture and the southern Miyazaki post, respectively.
The JMA reported that no harm had been reported, but Tateyama city of Chiba, close to Tokyo, urged southern residents to leave following the advisory.
It is hazardous in the water and close to the coast, JMA national Toshihiro Shimoyama cautioned during a press conference.
” Please exit the water and keep your distance from the beach.”
Shimoyama asserted that the JMA” haven’t been able to pinpoint the reason ,” despite presuming that a earthquake was what caused the storm waves.
However, the US Geological Survey found a string of deep earthquakes in the Izu archipelago, with the strongest 5.4 scale tremor being felt at 5.17 am 551 kilometers west of Shimoda.
The most recent warning comes after Japan experienced a one-meter wave close to the Izu islands next week following an earthquake of magnitude 6.5.
