Seoul’s foreign minister said at a meeting of the three countries ‘ top diplomats on Saturday ( Mar 22 ) that peace on the Korean Peninsula was a shared responsibility. They also made the pledge to promote cooperation.
The talks came after a unique trilateral summit in Seoul in May last year where the neighbors, who are riven by traditional and territorial disputes, agreed to strengthen ties and reiterated their desire to have a Korean Peninsula that had never been nuclearized.
However, they come as US business tariffs are looming over the area and concerns grow about North Korea’s use of force to help Russia’s war against Ukraine.
” We reaffirmed that the three countries ‘ shared interests and responsibility is to maintain peace and stability on the Vietnamese island,” South Korea’s Cho Tae-yul said on Saturday.
Additionally, he said,” Also, I stressed that Russian and North Korean military assistance must be stopped immediately.”
Seoul and Tokyo normally speak out more strongly against North Korea than China, which continues to be one of Pyongyang’s most significant allies and economic supporters.
Takeshi Iwaya, the Chinese foreign minister, stated that he, Cho, and Wang Yi from China “had a frank exchange of views on trilateral cooperation and local foreign matters” and that we” may encourage future-oriented assistance.”
