Jammu-Kashmir: Four Indian soldiers killed in gunfight

The latest in a string of recent attacks by armed militants in the contested territory comes after at least four men are killed in a shootout with suspected extremists in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Security forces were conducting a search function in the forests of Doda region in Jammu on Monday evening when they came under fire.

Five soldiers were killed last week when their car was attacked in a different area of the place, which India and Pakistan dispute.

Since 1989, an armed rebellion against Indian rule has claimed the lives of thousands of people in Kashmir, but crime has decreased.

Nevertheless, the relatively quiet Jammu area has seen more unrest in recent months. Since June, there have been at least eight reported problems in the area.

Last month, nine people died and 33 were injured after suspected militants fired on a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims in the region.

On 8 July, five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua district.

According to reports, extremists reportedly hiding in trees opened fire in the shootout on Monday night. According to a declaration from the American army, its forces were shot while conducting a search based on intelligence findings.

The military posted on X, which left five men with serious injuries in the firefight with militants. Four of them eventually succumbed to injury.

According to officials, more reinforcements have been deployed to the place to stop the attackers from fleeing.

For years, India and Pakistan have been at odds with one another in Kashmir’s Himalayan area. Islamabad denies that it harbors militants and stifles regional serenity, which is a cost that Delhi raises.
