Jail for Singapore Armed Forces regular who filmed some 28 upskirt videos of at least 13 schoolgirls

SINGAPORE: A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular stalked schoolgirls in outfits and recorded at least 28 upskirt movies between September plus October 2020.

On Tuesday (July 12), Poh Yu Jian, 30, pleaded guilty to carrying out voyeurism and was jailed for twenty weeks.

He filmed at least thirteen girls and would certainly catch them on locations such as over head bridges near universities, where he recorded the particular victims at the foot of the stairs.

The videos had been about one minute long each, but the longest one was a few minutes in duration, which was taken as he hunted a girl in Buona Vista MRT place.

He had been caught red-handed with a 15-year-old girl who have saw him filming her on an escalator at an MRT place.

The courtroom heard that Poh has been suspended through his duties in the SAF as a military medical expert and is likely to face end of contract following his court case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Etsuko Lim told the particular court that Poh recorded no fewer than 28 upskirt video clips of at least thirteen girls without their particular consent on at least 13 separate occasions.

Each of the 28 videos recorded by Poh captured the particular victim’s shorts or thighs and all of the particular victims were in school uniform.

The DPP added that will three of the thirteen or more victims were identified and that two of them were fourteen and 15 years of age at the time. The age of the 3rd victim was not mentioned in court documents.

Poh had furthermore installed an application on his phone to save screenshots and shorter clips of each upskirt video for ease of seeing.

The DPP said: “He hidden his (offences) simply by storing all the upskirt videos, as well as multiple obscene films, inside a secure password-protected file on his phone. ”

Urging Region Judge Jasvender Kaur to sentence Poh to 20 to 22 several weeks in jail, DPP Lim said: “There is a strong public interest in ensuring that countless commuters can travel safely each day, without needing to suffer the indignity of having their personal privacy invaded. ”

The DPP added that Poh was persistent in recording each of his victims, who were all fairly young.

Seeking a 16-week jail term for Poh, defence lawyer Gloria James said the particular accused had worked under immense stress during the time of the accidents, balancing his responsibilities with his schoolwork like a part-time university student.

Poh turned to the Telegram group, by which members shared intimate content, to fill up the void developed by social isolation as Covid-19 measures stiffened, said his attorney.

If he could be found to have breached his contract using the SAF, Poh may have to fork out S$87, 000 as a penalty intended for breaking his bond, she added.

Judge Kaur said that she agreed using the prosecution that there were aggravating factors within Poh’s case, while noting his earlier plea of sense of guilt and steps to look for psychiatric treatment.
