SINGAPORE: A 37-year-old man was jailed for three weeks on Monday ( Dec 16 ) for moderating nine pornography websites.
Tan Wee Quan James also admitted to instigating his sister to help him moderate one of the websites in exchange for S$ 60, 000 ( US$ 44, 500 ) in cash.
He admitted guilt on two counts of assisting and participating in a company that displayed offensive objects in public.
Sentencing for seven more similar claims was being considered.
The prosecutor was informed that Tan, between 2010 and 2011, discovered a person by the name Adrian on an online website.
Adrian asked Tan to help him run the pornographic platforms he was building in 2012.
Tan agreed to be a facilitator, which involved analyzing the people ‘ views and removing incorrect video from just uploaded people.
Tan began moderating the pornographic sites in 2014. Adrian and Tan both created and moderated more sites over the years.
He was given the facilitator username and password for these websites in order to carry out his duties.
At one point, Tan was moderating nine for websites.
The blogs charged viewers and advertisers for their services, and Tan, who served as the facilitator, received a portion of the profits.
In change for an income, Tan also reached out to his sister in 2020 and asked her to help him mild one of the websites when he was active and unable to.
She accepted the offer and rarely moderated the webpage from 2020 to Dec 15, 2022, receiving S$ 60, 000 over the course of her presence.
Tan continued to lower the places until Dec 15, 2022, when officers officials, acting on knowledge, raided his house.
The prosecutor argued for the necessity of “protecting the young and/or psychologically disturbed from possible injury caused by vulgar materials” and demanded a short prison term for each command.
He claimed that the government and health experts had concerns about a rise in sexual violence committed by young people as a result of increased publicity and online sex.
The attorney also highlighted that Tan profited from his tolerance of the sites, which had broad supply.
A three-month sentence, a good, or both are possible penalties for engaging in a company that displays offensive objects in public.
