Jail for ex-supervisor who cheated SIA Engineering Company to perform repairs as external contractor

A man was given a nine-month jail term on Tuesday ( Feb 18 ) for allegedly defrauding his employer by concealing his involvement in maintenance projects that were outsourced to a contractor. &nbsp,

Then an executive officer with SIA Engineering Company, 68-year-old Leong Siew Pui cheated the firm into believing it was paying another firm, Aittix Engineering, for maintenance services. &nbsp,

In reality, Leong was the one who carried out the functions, which related to an engine check service. He used Aittix’s name to pay for deals in open contracts, but did not hold any place in Aittix. &nbsp,

The Singaporean previously admitted guilt to three counts of lying to SIA Engineering Company, which provides repair services for the Singapore Airlines airplane fleet. &nbsp,

His attorney Gino Hardial Singh final admitted to the court that he works as a Grab drivers and performs unusual regular jobs while he is not longer with the company. &nbsp,

Leong had been employed by SIA Engineering since 1978, and he was about to retire in 2009. &nbsp,

After retiring that time, he came up with the idea to work for SIA Engineering Company as an outside company and offer maintenance and repair services. &nbsp,

He observed during the course of his job that outside contractors frequently required maintenance inspections every two to three days, but he was unable to help them due to functional constraints.

Because he knew when to schedule the works, he believed he was better suited to carry out the maintenance and repair projects than physical contractors. &nbsp,

He spoke with the owner of Aittix, which at the moment offered publishing trading services, about the Chinese New Year that year.

Leong inquired about Mr. Tan’s interest in doing maintenance work, but he immediately declined because he had no prior experience with them. &nbsp,

He consented to Leong using Aittix to conduct deals in an SIA Engineering Company empty sweet because he believed Aittix would gain from having reliable clients like SIA Engineering Company. &nbsp,

Aittix was chosen that year to be a vendor of SIA Engineering Company in an empty sweet. From 2014 to 2017, the business then awarded Aittix a number of arrangements. Investigations were unable to identify whether Leong used sensitive information to compile the powerful bids. &nbsp,

Over this time, Aittix issued SIA Engineering Company a total of 43 payments. &nbsp,

Alternatively of Aittix, Leong provided all the services that were invoiced, with the exception of two receipts for sound-absorbing panel maintenance. He claimed that he had intended to perform these plays later on.

On his of days or after work hours, Leong used an assistant to assist him in any maintenance and repair jobs Aittix had contracted him to do. &nbsp,

He did not tell SIA Engineering Company that he was providing the service for Attix or that he had any relationship to Aittix. &nbsp,

In total, SIA Engineering Company paid Aittix S$ 382, 517 ( US$ 285, 000 ) across all six of Leong’s charges.

The crimes were made public by the authorities in January 2019 when they learned of a suspected scam situation.

Leong estimated that he earned a gain of S$ 63, 737 from the design, which he has surrendered to the police. &nbsp,

Additionally, he entirely refunded the S$ 38, 984 earned from the two incomplete payments.

Leong’s attorney Mr Singh, who sought five months ‘ prison for his client during sentencing claims, said there were no issues about Leong’s operate on SIA Engineering Company’s engine test body, which is used to test the performance of aircraft engines.

The trial added that there was no proof the works were faulty in regards to the work Leong performed in 2017 that made up one of the proceeded costs. &nbsp,

Leong’s target was previously stated by SIA Engineering Company as being on “limited sections of an motor check service.” According to the business, he did not perform any maintenance or repair jobs related to plane or airplane vehicles. &nbsp,

The contracts awarded to Aittix Engineering were only allowed to maintain precise, less important sections of the engine testing facility, the statement continued. &nbsp,

” These contracts did not have an impact on SIA Engineering Company’s repair work or plane safety, nor did they have any impact on aircraft maintenance work.”

Since then, SIA Engineering Company’s agreement with Aittix has been terminated.
