Jaahnavi Kandula: US police officer who joked about woman’s death fired

A US authorities officer has been fired for claiming that an American student’s life had “limited price” after she passed away last year.

The Seattle Police Department said that officer Daniel Auderer’s comments about Jaahnavi Kandula’s death were “vile” and callous”, The Seattle Times reported.

Kandula, 23, was fatally struck down in January by another police vehicle while she was crossing a street near her university.

Mr. Auderer, who was responding to the affair, was caught laughing and saying that she was a “regular man” and that the town should just write a check.

When he had made a visit to a partner, the footage was captured on his body cameras.

” But she is dying,” Mr Auderer was heard saying before laughing”. No, it’s a normal guy. Yeah, simply create a paycheck, “he said, before laughing again.

” Eleven thousand bucks. She was 26, anyhow. She had limited benefit, “he added.

The film was widely shared on social media and sparked anger online.

On Wednesday, Seattle Police Department’s time main Sue Rahr announced Mr Auderer’s cancellation through a department-wide contact.

Mr Auderer’s steps had brought sorrow on the whole department and the police job, she wrote.

She added that Mr. Auderer’s” cruel and callous laughing” and the problems his family inflicted on Kandula was n’t rival his good standing among his coworkers and his long hours of community service.

” For me to let the officer to stay on our force would only serve to dishonor the full department,” the statement read. For that reason, I am going to cancel his career,” she said.

Following the incident, Mr. Audered was being looked into.

The Seattle Times reported that the Office of Police Accountability, the company that looks into authorities misconduct, had recommended Mr. Auderer’s dismissal for inappropriate behavior and showing bias in observed claims.

Jaahnavi Kandula studied at Northeastern University in Seattle as a graduate student.

According to US media reports, the officer who struck her with his patrol vehicle was traveling at a speed of 74 mph ( 119 km/h ), and she was thrown more than 100 feet ( 30 meters ).
