International Women’s Day is meant to celebrate people from all walks of life, yet IWD activities seem to show the same stories, the same success reports, and the same concepts of independence – most of which have to do with how many people are “killing it” at work.  ,
This hyper-focus on ladies in the workplace as the only measurement for women’s development raises a naive way of viewing sex discrimination and injustice when, in fact, it manifests different across cultures. And so, correctly, development takes many forms.  ,
Inequality and bias don’t really exist in the workplace. They even come in the form of domestic violence and abuse, sexism among ladies themselves, and physical abuse – in the workplace,  , on the internet and , rather virtually anywhere.
And let’s not forget how female players in some activities have a different outfit script from their male counterparts when it comes to competitors clothes.
Sometimes it’s time to cut down on yet another screen showcasing business professionals. They can maintain their tickets, but we have to make room for a wider range of powerful women – as well as see victory in different ways.
While being in business administration is noble, not every person wants to be a CEO, and that’s fine. If we really care about diversification, we need to develop the discussion beyond women at work to girls in all aspects of life.
A thriving community is one where ladies, regardless of their part, are treated with dignity, freedom, and respect.
I’d like to see organisations shine a light on the women cleaning our company closet, artisans preserving familial art, single mums creating their own way yet as they’re squeezed in a sandwich generation, abuse survivors rebuilding their lives, and volunteers at women’s shelters.
I want to hear from women who learned how to invest from scratch, advocates for the well-being of young girls in the age of social media, and aunties who care for the homeless and animals in their neighbourhoods. What are their stories? Who inspires them? Where do they find strength?
