Itthipol Khunpluem, a former culture secretary, was detained at Suvarnabhumi aircraft yesterday after arriving from Phnom Penh in Cambodia two days after pledging to submit.
He was sought after in connection with the unauthorized building of a Pattaya apartment complex.
After leaving the country on August 30, Mr. Itthipol arrived at 10 am on a trip operated by Cambodia Airways.
According to an immigration officers origin, he was instantly transported to Rayong’s Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases Region 2.
At 12.30 p.m., he showed up at the judge and informed the writers that it was his turn to turn himself in. Eventually, he was given 120, 000 baht bond.
Shortly after allegations of his involvement in the Pattaya condominium’s design were made, Mr. Itthiphol, 50, left the country.

The Criminal Court after issued an arrest warrant for the former chancellor and two other defendants for Corruption and Misconduct Cases Regions 2 on September 5.
Mr. Itthipol, a younger brother of former Pattaya president Sonthaya Kunpluem, served in that capacity before taking the position of culture secretary in Prayut Chan-o-cha’s second government in July 2019.
While serving as governor of Pattaya in 2008, he authorized the Waterfront condominium project’s improper construction, which is now subject to charges of wrongdoing under Section 157 of the Criminal Code. Because the building’s force was obtained improperly, demolition has been ordered.
