‘It’s going to make me stronger’: Sprint queen Shanti Pereira vows comeback after Paris Olympics exit

Pereira finished last out of eight competitors in her warmth on Sunday, slipping short of involuntary qualification for the same occasion.

She was 31st out of 45 companies.

Earlier in the Games, Pereira failed to advance to the 100m semi-finals, finishing 55th out of 72 sports nevertheless. In her steam, her 11.63s placed her seventh out of nine competitors. Her federal document is 11.20s.

Last year was a career-defining one for Pereira.

At the Hangzhou Asian Games, she won the children’s 200m finalized- Singapore’s first sports golden prize since 1974.

Weeks before that, Pereira ended Singapore’s almost 50-year wait for a track and field award at the Asian Games, after she won a gold in the 100m.

Pereira won the 100 and 200-meter relay at the SEA Games in May, becoming the first Malaysian woman to do so at the Asian Athletics Championships in July.

However, the Singaporean has faced challenges over the years that she has openly discussed in the past. These include self-doubt, criticism, and stress.

” Many things I’ve learned from the past, especially when pressure is brought on by physical influences,” I said. I may safely say I’m not affected by it which is a great plus”, said Pereira.

” What I’m feeling pressure from is myself, wanting to be at the same level as ( I have been ). I think I’m allowed to be rough on myself, that’s just how sports are”.

But unfortunately, Pereira knows that she can spin again.

” I’ve learned that I can bounce back from challenging points”, she explained. It’s truly how I take control of the situation and take my best soul to the other side,” he said.
