An Italian organization is considering investing in the administration’s Land Bridge giant task, according to Transport Minister Suriya Juengrungreangkit.

At the government on Tuesday, Mr. Suriya met European embassy Paolo Dionisi and associates of the Mermec Group, an Italian business specializing in railway-related systems.

He said they discussed possible cooperation in the travel industry and joint ventures in the public transportation field.

The government suggested the 1 trillion-baht Land Bridge project, which was praised as a gift for regional logistics systems and as a solution to the Strait of Malacca’s transport congested.

He stated that the project aims to establish the nation as a local shipping hub with deep-sea ships in Ranong on the Andaman Sea coastline and Chumphon state in the Gulf of Thailand.

There had also&nbsp, become a highway linking the two slots and a bridge structure.

The private sector would be able to contribute to the project’s control and development for 50 times under the public-private relationship model.

He claimed that the Mermec Group members had shown an interest in the Land Bridge and as help for other projects, including the double-track rail and the high-speed train project.

The proposed Land Bridge is part of the Southern Economic Corridor intended to boost the government’s business through logistics, communication and business with representative countries of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi- Regional Technical and Economic Cooperation&nbsp,- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
