Israel's ambassador apologised for Facebook post on Palestine; officer responsible will be 'sent back': Shanmugam

Last year, law and home affairs minister K Shanmugam apologized for a&nbsp, a Facebook post about Palestine that the military published in March, and the ambassador of Israel to Singapore met with him.

According to Mr. Shanmugam on Wednesday ( May 8 ), Ambassador Eliyahu Vered Hazan claimed that the appointment was improper and that the officer responsible would be fired.

” And he said that this will never happen again”, Mr Shanmugam told congress.

Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim ( PAP-Chua Chu Kang ), a member of Parliament, emailed the minister about whether further steps would be taken in this regard and whether the responsible party would enjoy diplomatic immunity.

A blog from the official Facebook page of the Israeli embassy in Singapore on March 24th, &nbsp, contained claims that Israel and Palestine are mentioned in the Quran.

The article said:” Israel is mentioned 43 days in the Quran. Palestine, on the other hand, is never even mentioned.

” Each and every historical evidence – charts, documents, coins, url the land of Israel to the Hebrew people as the indigenous people of the property.”

Later that evening, the article was deleted. Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs had informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which told Israel’s ambassador that the article had to be taken down quickly.

The secretary claimed that the police had received a report on the article and had discussed with the Attorney-General’s Chambers that” no more action was being taken” after receiving a statement.

” The Jewish ministry’s activities are covered by the concept of royal immunity,” Mr Shanmugam said on Wednesday.

Officials are exempt from criminal prosecution in their host nation, but the official’s state may waive that resistance, according to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The meet with Mr Shanmugam was requested by Israel’s adviser. I told the minister that offices have a right to have their point of view, and I did.

” But where what has been said affects Singapore, in this case the cooperation and security within Singapore, especially the safety as also of our minority neighborhoods, we have to move in”.

Additionally, Mr. Shanmugam provided an update on accounts of alleged insulting language or practices in Singapore against Jews or Muslims.

Between Oct 7, 2023 and Mar 31, 2024, the officers received 43 for information, he said. In a previous release, it was reported that eight reports were made in October 2023 by the police.
