The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra later confirmed this “new technique” to combating corruption by placing emphasis on property treatment on December 20.
Legal experts and politicians objected to the concept, including Mahfud MD, the original coordinating minister for social, legal, and security affairs, who claimed the proposed strategy might destroy Indonesia’s fight against corruption.  ,
Prabowo issued a warning on Saturday that those who stole wealth cannot simply repent and give it back.  ,
So what if he asks you to forgive and return the items you stole, he said, adding that his government will continue to return the profits from bone crimes if the bone criminals refuse to do so.  ,
He also reaffirmed his devotion to eradicating corruption in his speech, which was attended by thousands of people, including many religious figures, by stating that Indonesia will not live as long as corruption endures.  ,
Rules MINISTER APOLOGISES
Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas has since apologized for his earlier recommendation that the government should implement a “peace great” as one of the ways Prabowo’s idea of recovering from graft offenders, according to local media.  ,  ,
Supratman had voiced his support for Prabowo’s provocative statement in Cairo, claiming that improving the recovery of graft victims was more important than punishing the convicts.  ,
According to him,” the reality is that we basically condemn corrupt individuals with the obligation to pay payment and some other fines when the fines do not amount to the real state losses,” he said in a media statement on December 23, as reported by media company Antara.
The Attorney General’s Office ( AGO ), which allows a case to be settled outside of court by paying a fine determined by the AGO, then compared the asset recovery concept to the “peace fine.”  ,
However, Harli Siregar, AG O’s Mind of the Legal Information Center, refuted Supratman’s assertions on Friday, saying that the peace good is only used to resolve financial acts, such as those involving problem, and not corruption, as Antara reported.  ,
In lighting of the reaction, Supratman has issued an apology.
” I just want to compare ( possible approaches for graft convicts ), it does not mean that the President will use that, absolutely not”, the minister said on Friday, as quoted by Kompas.  ,
Supratman even clarified that Indonesia’s programs to grant parole to 44, 000 prisoners will not include transplant criminals.  ,
Earlier, Yusril- the integrating minister for law, individual rights, multiculturalism and corrections- had claimed that the administration’s proposed pardon of graft offenders is part of the broader programme aimed at addressing the country’s packed prisons.  ,
Supratman noted that drug offenders as well as those in Papua province who have long-term illnesses, including those who have mental illnesses, and those who have been imprisoned for criticizing the government are among those who may be pardoned.
