Indonesia school bus crash kills 11, dozens injured

BANDUNG: According to police, a bus carrying high school students on a graduation trip crashed on Indonesia’s biggest island on Sunday ( May 12 ), killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens more.

More than 60 students and teachers from the popular tourist destination Lembang on the Java beach city of Depok were on board when the vehicle crashed at 6:48 p.m. on Saturday.

The van suddenly lost control and veered off, colliding with a car and three motorcycles, according to West Java state police spokesman Jules Abraham Abast, who spoke to AFP on Sunday. The students were really graduating from school.

” Out of the people who died, nine of them were kids, and one of them was a teacher”, Abast said.

The incident also killed one motorist, severely injured 13 people and caused minor accidents to 40 people, he added.

Abast claimed authorities are also looking into the cause of the accident despite abusing local customers police chief Undang Syarif Hidayat’s report to Kompas.
