India’s top court declines to legalise same-sex marriage

NEW DELHI: According to the chief justice of India, making such a law is the responsibility of parliament, India’s top court ruled on Tuesday( Oct 17 ) that it cannot legalize same-sex marriages.

Between April and May of this year, a five-judge panel led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud heard claims in the case and issued its decision on Tuesday.

As he started reading his attempt, Chandrachud noted that there was some” agreement and disagreement on how far we have to go” on same-sex relationships.

The court’s decision to forbid same-sex unions was supported by two of the other four magistrates, making it a lot.

There are still two more judges to respond.

Five years have passed since the Supreme Court overturned a colonial-era ban on gay intercourse, leading to the current court decision.
