Sid Sriram was back on our shores once again for a two-night sold out concert last weekend.
“Malaysia is my second home as I have always been welcomed with open arms and genuine love from the fans, and now that I’m here again, I’m just honoured and beyond excited”, the Indian singer told media prior to the Aug 20 and Aug 21 shows held at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.
While most are familiar with his Indian tunes such as Thalli Pogathey, Yennai Maatrum Kadhale and Maruvaarthai, Sriram said his next project may come as a surprise to fans.
“The biggest project I have in store at the moment has to be my next album which will be in English, that I finished recording a couple of months ago,” shared the multiple award-winning singer.
“I’m thrilled to reveal that I have worked with a number of great artistes on this album,” he said, without divulging who he collaborated with. However, he teased: “As such, big announcements are awaiting for the fans and please look forward to it”.
Sriram was born in Chennai, India but moved to the United States when he was a toddler. He developed his love for music from his mother who was a Carnatic music teacher. Sriram is a graduate from the prestigious Berklee College Of Music in Boston.
Although his songs are mostly in the R&B genre, the 32-year-old said for him, music is fluid and he would want to explore other genres as well.
“Even if a song has a melodic vibe and R&B soul to it, underneath, there are several elements taken from different music genres incorporated within it.” he said.
“I’m very intrigued to venture into various kinds of music especially those from different parts of the world.
“Recently, I have been thinking about ways to incorporate and align them with the kind of music that I usually create into something authentic and different which would be loved by the fans”, the singer added.
So where does he get his inspiration from?
“Basically, I get inspiration from the everyday emotions, that we human beings constantly undergo through different experiences and feelings”.
Sriram explained the simple act of just walking down a street and picking up a random flower could be a source of inspiration for him.
