India PM Modi’s BJP trails in vote count in two provincial elections, TV says

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) trailed in two provincial elections as votes were counted on Tuesday ( Oct 8 ), TV channels said, a fresh setback after it failed to win a clear majority in the general election&nbsp, this&nbsp, year.

Elections in the stressed Himalayan territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern state of Haryana were conducted in phases that ended on Saturday, marking the first popular test since Modi’s record-extending next right term as prime minister in June, albeit with the support of regional parties.

The Modi government’s ability to make national policies is not anticipated to be affected by losing Haryana and retaining control of Jammu and Kashmir, but it will serve as a damper for the BJP ahead of elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, two states that are more socially essential.

Exit polls had predicted a victory for Haryana’s main opposition party, giving the party an advantage over Congress and its regional allies, the National Conference (NC ) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The calculating showed BJP was leading in 22 votes in Haryana, where it has held power for a decade, while Congress was back in 57 chairs, TV network CNN-News18 reported.

In the first provincial election in Jammu and Kashmir since the condition was divided into two officially administered territories in 2019, it was reported that the BJP was in the lead in 29 seats while the Congress-NC ally was in 44 in the lead in the state’s first provincial election since the condition was split into two legally administered territories in 2019.

Both parliament have 90 seating each.

The business hub of Maharashtra is reportedly ruled by a BJP alliance, and an antagonism empire is in power in mineral-rich Jharkhand.

Votes in both says, although yet to be announced, are expected to be held in November.

Rahul Gandhi, the heir of a kingdom that gave India three primary officials but who has been blamed for the group’s decline since Modi seized power in 2014, likely receive a significant increase from the success of Congress in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Gandhi is currently the leader of the opposition in the lower house of parliament and the face of the two-dozen group opposition alliance that won Modi an overwhelming majority in the legislative vote.
