Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused India of making a “massive error” that Canada was not disregard if Delhi was responsible for the death of a Sikh separatist president last year on American soil.
Trudeau made the comments two days after Canadian officials accused India of being involved in homicides, extortions and other violent acts targeting Indian dissidents on Canadian soil.
After Canada levelled the charges on Monday, both nations expelled leading envoys and ambassadors, ramping up now disturbed conflicts.
India has rejected the claims as “preposterous”, and accused Trudeau of pandering to Canada’s big Hindu society for political gain.
On Wednesday, India hit back furiously suddenly and called Trudeau’s behavior” reckless”.
At a press conference, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, said,” Canada has presented us no information whatsoever to back up the major complaints that it has chosen to stage against India and Indian ambassadors.”
Prime Minister Trudeau is the only one to bear the blame for the harm that this reckless behavior has caused to India-Canada connections.
In his remarks before a common investigation into American politicians’ foreign interference, Trudeau had criticized India’s reaction to the Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing in June 2023.
Trudeau claims that he was informed about the crime later that summer and that knowledge made it “incredibly clear” that India was involved in the murder.
He argued that Canada had to take any admitted infraction of its country’s independence and the global rules significantly.
Mr Nijjar was shot and killed in Surrey, British Columbia. He had formally campaigned for the Khalistan motion, which demanded a separate Hindu country.
At the time, but, Canada’s knowledge did not amount to hard facts or evidence, Trudeau told the inquiry.
Four Indian citizens have since been charged with Mr. Nijjar’s suicide by authorities.
Trudeau claimed that while he had hoped to handle the situation “in a responsible way” that did n’t “blow up” the bilateral relationship with a significant trade partner, Indian officials refrained from assisting Canada in the investigation.
” It was evident that the American government’s approach was to denounce us and the dignity of our democracy”, he said.
Soon after he made the complaints public, he claimed in September that Canada had” credible complaints” linking Indian government agencies to the crime.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP ) released additional allegations this week, and the prime minister added more details on Wednesday.
The authorities force took the unusual step of making people information about numerous continued inquiries in Canada that were” a major threat to public safety.”
RCMP said on Monday there had been “over a few reputable and immediate threats to living” which” exclusively” focused on people of the pro-Khalistan activity.
According to the RCMP, authorities in later studies had discovered alleged criminal activity that had been orchestrated by government of India agencies.
According to Trudeau, the army made the announcement with the “intention to disrupt the chain of events that was causing drive-by shootings, home invasions, aggressive extortion, and yet murder” in the South Eastern community across Canada.
India has repeatedly refuted all states and argued that Canada has not provided any proof to back up its promises.
Last weekend, the RCMP and national safety advisers traveled to Singapore to meet American officials, a conference the RCMP claimed was unsuccessful.
Following Monday’s complaints from American authorities, the UK and US urged India to co-operate with Canada’s legal method.
The British Foreign Office announced on Wednesday that it was in phone with Ottawa regarding the significant improvements that were the subject of separate studies in Canada.
The UK has complete trust in Canada’s criminal technique,” the speech added.
” The State of India’s co-operation with Canada’s constitutional procedure is the correct next stage.”
Another supporter of Canada, the US, claimed that India was not cooperating with American authorities as the White House had hoped.
At a Tuesday presentation with the US State Department, director Matthew Miller stated that” we have made clear that the claims are really significant and they need to be taken critically.”
” Evidently, they have never chosen that path.”
Canada’s international minister, Melanie Joly, has said that Ottawa is in close touch with the Five Eyes intelligence ally- comprising the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand- on the subject.
