In Malaysia, family of Nick Kyrgios rooting for him to win his biggest tennis prize at Wimbledon

KUALA LUMPUR: When Nick Kyrgios can make his first appearance at a Wimbledon tennis last on Sunday (Jul 10), his family within Malaysia will be entertaining him on.  

The 27-year-old is the 1st Australian man to progress to a Grand Throw singles final since  Lleyton Hewitt  in 2005. He will undertake Serbian top seeds and s ix-time champion Novak Djokovic for the Wimbledon title.  

Kyrgios’ mother Norlaila can be Malaysian.  

His cousin Hafiz Amir Hamzah, thirty four, said the whole family is going to be glued to the television, rooting for him to lift the trophy.  

“When Nick plays, my whole household would watch their games. I feel really excited and super happy. Of course , I really hope he wins. No matter what happens, we are nevertheless proud of him. We have always been proud of him, ” he told CNA.

Mr Hafiz admitted which he was not much of a football fan but would tune in to Kyrgios’ games.

“My late dad was a tennis fan and used to watch each match. I only watched when Chip plays. I have watched almost all his video games, ” he stated, adding that he has watched Kyrgios live when he played in the Malaysian Open up and during their first participation within the Australian Open within Melbourne.

Mr Hafiz’s late father and Kyrgios’ mom are first cousins.

Norlaila was born in Gombak, Selangor, although she has resided in Canberra for nearly 40 years.

Mr Hafiz said Kyrgios is like a youthful brother to your pet, adding that their loved ones used to see each other more often  during the holidays when they were much younger.

“I do information him sometimes. Their mum always movie calls us and when he is at home, he’d say hi, ” said Mr Hafiz. Kyrgios would play tennis in Malaysia even when he has been on holiday, he added.
