PETALING JAYA: The action of the officer seen shouting in a viral video is against the values of the Immigration Department despite being provoked, says its director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud (pic).
In a statement Sunday (Aug 21), he said the incident at UTC Selangor in Shah Alam recently was viewed seriously.
He added that the Immigration officer had gone against the department’s slogan of “Integrity, Professionalism and Friendliness”.
“Shouting and saying foul words towards a member of the public are actions that should not be done by an Immigration officer, who are public servants.
“Officers have to be able to control themselves and take a professional approach when faced with verbal provocation by members of the public because they have been given the appropriate training to do so.

“In this matter, the department has transferred the officer to a different division immediately,” he said.
An investigation paper by the department’s integrity division will be opened.
However, the director-general also condemned the provocation by the other party.
He added that many resources to renew passports have been prepared, including the extension of hours during the weekend.
“We advise all to refer to our social media pages for the latest information.
“We would also like to stress that there will be no compromise towards any officer found acting unprofessionally.
“At the same time, action will be taken against parties who tarnish the image and reputation of the Immigration Department,” he said.
