IMH launches 10-year study of youths to support and track their mental health development

On Friday ( Nov 22 ), a 10-year study was released to support and monitor the development of youths with a number of mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions. &nbsp,

The project by the Institute of Mental Health ( IMH) will&nbsp, kick off with a two-year study called Building Resilience And Intervention ( BRAVE ). To determine the prevalence of mental health conditions among them, screening and diagnosing may be a part of this. &nbsp,

The study does rely on autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit restlessness disorder, anxiety, and despair- which are the four most common problems seen at the IMH Child Guidance Clinics, said the university in a media release. &nbsp,

The study is supported by Temasek Foundation, which provided a grant of S$ 1.5 million ( US$ 1.1 million ).

The second phase of the study project will examine how to create and implement action plans to enhance individuals ‘ endurance and well-being. &nbsp,

The study’s final phase will monitor participants ‘ mental health journeys and look for any potential links between these situations and events they might go through. &nbsp,

One in five Singaporean youths have at least one mental health condition, according to the Singapore Mental Health Study ( 2016 ). &nbsp,

The highest proportion of people with mental health disorders were those between the ages of 18 and 34, and they were more likely to include issues like mood and anxiety.

At a press briefing on Friday, IMH told investigators that it has started recruiting individuals.

40, 000 randomly chosen households with at least one young Singaporean citizen or continuous native born between 2007 and 2016 will receive offer papers in quantities, the invitations were added. &nbsp,

Dr Lim Choon Guan, who is the main inspector of the Valiant study, said his team is hoping to obtain less 4, 000 members.

Parents who want their child to participate in the study but do n’t get a letter for their child born before the intended age can register.

Participants will be asked to complete an online screening to determine mental health issues and get invited to a detailed evaluation if necessary to confirm the diagnosis.

One month later, all members will have access to a follow-up mental health monitoring to track their well-being. &nbsp,

IMH said all monitoring and assessments, including information returned to individuals, done as part of the research will be free of charge.

IMH said it will lead contributors to a company that is appropriate for their needs, even though the investigation does not cover the cost of any interventions for any problems that have been identified. &nbsp,

It further stated that all study data and diagnoses will remain strictly confidential and that no one else will be able to access them.

The second and third phases of the study are currently being planned, according to IMH. &nbsp,
