Husband on trial for raping wife and threatening to stab her with metal rod

SINGAPORE: A man went on trial on Tuesday ( Jan 21 ) for raping his wife in the place  where he lived during the COVID-19 crisis.

Both immigrants are protected by a joke order. Their cultures, ages, activities and the location of the event were redacted in judge files.

Before the pandemic, they commuted to Singapore regularly for labor. During the crisis, the gentleman was stuck in Singapore and found a place to live.

The girl moved to Singapore in August 2020 and stayed in a straight provided by her employer. The few continued living off.

On the day of Nov 8, 2020, the gentleman wanted to meet his family to move her a present. She first declined, but met him when he showed up at her vacuum board.

They got into a heated debate when she rejected his current.

According to Deputy Public Prosecution Alan Loh and Emily Koh, the gentleman slapped and kicked her several times at the hole board.

The prosecutors said the lady listened to her boss’s tips to follow her partner to handle their fight peacefully, even though she had misgivings.

She rode on his bike and they reached the place where he lived at nearby to 1pm.

According to statistics agreed upon by both edges, the gentleman slapped his spouse and showed her a picture of a physical act. He remarked that the person in the picture looked like her.

According to the trial, the girl fell and chipped her teeth when she was slapped.

The defendant’s scenario is that the person locked the ball windows and door of the place where he lived  to stop his partner from escaping, and then raped her.

He reportedly held a steel rod and threatened to kill her with it, for that she was labouring under fear of injury during the sexual functions.

He is also accused of threatening to destroy his woman if she told people what he had done to her, and telling her to suggest she had fallen down a staircase otherwise.

This supposedly led her to lie to her family that she was good and that her quarrel with her father had been resolved.

According to the trial, the person finally forced his family to spend the night with him. They left along after 6am and went to her straight.

The prosecutors said the lady asked her girlfriend to support her call the police. She was brought to the hospital in an ambulance and told skilled workers that she had been raped.

The person has claimed test for two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated outrage of humility, deliberately causing hurt and legal intimidation.

Two more matters of deliberately causing hurt and one matter of possessing vulgar films have been stood over during the test.

The person admits that the sexual functions took place, but his army is that they were sexual.

He is represented by Mr Shashi Nathan, Ms Harjeet Kaur and Mr U Sudharshanraj under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.

The trial may present information from 38 testimony to confirm its case.

” The sexual functions took place after the accused had actually assaulted the target and threatened to damage the target with the steel rod,” the prosecutors said.

At the time, she was injured, in dread of being hurt by her husband, and had no exit, they said.

” The accused can reasonably argue that he, in great devotion, mistakenly believed that the sufferer consented to the works in problem,” they said.

Singapore completely repealed conjugal immunity for assault in January 2020. The second conviction for sexual abuse within a relationship after the law was changed took place in April 2024.
