Huamark police station ‘safe’ despite floor collapsing

The particular structure of Huamark police station in Bang Kapi area has been ruled safe, even though the unsupported ground in part of the building suddenly subsided upon Wednesday morning.

Public works engineers from the Hammer Kapi district workplace inspected the building and the collapsed floor within the traffic and interrogation division of the 56-year-old station on Ramkhamhaeng Road on Fri.

The ground cracked and then crumpled and sank, developing a big pit which range from 20-50 centimetres strong.

Sommat Patarapreechakan, assistant region chief, said apart from the floor collapsing within the two adjacent sections, there was no other harm to the building structure. Authorities would check the flooring in other rooms in the station.

Pol Col Setthaphan Srisakhon, chief of the police station, stated that on Wednesday early morning he was knowledgeable that cracks got appeared in the ground of the traffic department. He evacuated many staff. A few hours later the whole floor collapsed.

No one was injured and damage was not major, he said.

What were now the visitors and interrogation rooms had been an empty area.   The particular walls and floor were added to the building to create both rooms, which protected about 50 sq . metres.

Works officials from the Royal Thai Police Office had already examined the damage constructing. They reported how the floor had been laid directly on the ground, not really raised on assistance piles. They held responsible the floor’s best collapse on steady soil subsidence, he said.
