SUKHOTHAI- The research was continuing for a 10-year-old baby missing after her household collapsed into the rain-swollen Yom River when the bank crumbled apart on Tuesday.

One man was confirmed killed and several others injured, all members of the same family.

Bang Kaew firefighters were called the field, in tambon Khlong Krachong of Sawankhalok region, about 3pm on Tuesday as the property fell down the bank to the top of the smooth flowing valley.

About ten people were reported in and around the house at the time. Seven were said to have fled as it went along, but all were injured to some extent. Three were trapped in metres-thick clay amid the dust from the ruined tower, one a adolescent girl.

As a determined seek began for the buried people, the wounded were taken to Sawankhalok clinic.

Local media media said the household had been packing their possessions, preparing to leave the home, when the river collapsed.

About 7pm on Tuesday firefighters pulled one person, Pitak Khemthong, 45, out of the mud, dead but exhausted by his suffering. Another person, Rachain Kamthong, 52, was found dead.

A 10-year-old baby, Chutima Kamthong, reported to be a child of the dying man, remained missing. The research continued on Wednesday as hope for her life dwindled.

Firefighters and volunteers from various companies were involved in the hungry work, which was complicated by the ocean flood through the wreckage. There were concerns more of the river could be washed away, with other houses also dangerously close to the edge.
