A Russian disk rider wanted for a hit-and-run that critically injured a scooter driver has been detained on Koh Phangan in this southern state.

Tourist authorities arrested Vigen Atoian, 36, at a property in tambon Ban Tai on Friday.

The suspect was wanted on a police arrest warrant for careless driving, which resulted in serious injury and property injury, issued by the Samui municipal court.

According to authorities, Mr Atoian worked as a DJ in some holiday regions in Thailand. Due to his popularity with Russian visitors, he just made a four-day trip to Koh Phangan to work at a party. He went by the name DJ Vigen on Instagram.

The arrest warrant, issued on July 30 next year, stemmed from a highway accident in which the suspect, driving a Fortuner car, hit a bike, causing serious injury to the motorist.

He was handed over to Koh Phanan stop officers for legal action by tourists police.
