Hikers evacuated as Indonesia’s Marapi volcano spews ash tower

PADDANG: According to officials, a volcano in northern Indonesia erupted on Sunday, December 3, spewing dust 3 kilometers into the air and forcing dozens of hikers to flee.

The third-highest call levels of Indonesia’s four-step system is Mount Marapi on the island of Sumatra, which has a maximum of 2, 891 meters. Authorities imposed an isolation area around its volcano.
