Phuket intends to increase its tourism profit to 500 billion baht in the second quarter of this year through policies that favor high-end travelers.

Rewat Areerob, president of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization ( PAO ), stated on Monday that his organization had previously set its goal to receive 420 billion baht in tourism revenue before changing.

The fresh target of 500 billion ringgit reflects Phuket’s ability as a leading gateway for commerce, vehicles and aircraft, he said.

The PAO has identified two key objectives to boost tourism and regional income, with a focus on attracting visitors with higher spending power to the province in an effort to increase their spending while there.

The first step is to eliminate traffic congestion by introducing 24 electric vehicles ( EVs ) in place of the pink pho thong buses, which have been in the area for more than ten years.

These electric vehicles will run along three key city streets and one extra airport-related thoroughfares. Saphan Hin is connected to the Central Phuket shopping mall ( 11 kilometers ), Ao Chalong Pier to the Super Cheap supermarket ( 18 kilometers ), Rassada Pier to Andamanda Water Park ( 10. 15 kilometers ), and Phuket Airport to Rawai Beach ( 47 kilometers ).

The new roads have been designed to deliver better access to tourist destinations, schools, neighborhoods and industrial areas, Mr Rewat said. Each Vehicle may have 21 people, and test runs are set to begin in December, he added.

The municipal prison in Phuket will now be located in Ban Bang Jo in the Thalang area, allowing the former prison to be turned into a public park.

The 33-rai area may serve as a natural place for leisure and well-being, benefiting both locals and tourists, Mr Rewat said.

The job may have 300 parking spaces for visitors and be linked to nearby natural spaces to create a large, central open area with a expenditure of 169.5 million baht.
