Hello Kitty, parasites: Inside North Korea trash balloons according to South

According to South Korea, items with the names of Hello Kitty characters, worn clothing, and soil containing traces of human faeces and parasites were among the trash that balloons carried across the Korean border from North Korea on Monday ( Jun 24 ).

Since late May, North Korea has flown bubbles carrying debris, with thousands landing in South Korea. To assess the objects, South Korea deployed military-grade explosives units and chemical- and biological warfare models.

The South’s Unification Ministry, which deals with the North, reported in a statement that clothes that had been donated from the South had been slashed and cut up as well as standard garbage that appeared to have been collected in advance.
