Helicopter pilot dead after crashing into Australian hotel

In Cairns, in northern Queensland, a pilot died after their plane slammed into the roof of a resort.

Around 11:30 am local time on Monday ( 1650B Sunday ), the aircraft struck the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, igniting a fire that forced the evacuation of hundreds of guests.

The only person who was in the helicopter’s owner, according to Queensland Police, passed away at the scene.

Two resort guests- a gentleman in his 80s and a lady in her 70s– were taken to hospital in a secure situation, the state’s ambulance service said.

Alastair Salmon, a British tourist, reported to The Australian Broadcasting Corporation ( ABC ) that he had woken up to” a colossal ear-deafening bang.” He was staying at the hotel, which is on the main esplanade in Cairns.

According to the ABC, two of the pilot’s wheel blades reportedly landed on the waterfront and hotel swimming.

Mr Salmon, from London, said that after being evacuated he first mistook the pilot’s blade knife for a light.

Therefore, Mr. Salmon told the ABC,” we looked up there and you could view this enormous hole in the windows of the building.”

Police declared an emergency situation around the lodge, and roads around it have been cordoned off.

The American Transport Safety Bureau says it is dispatching scene-specific authorities.
