Helicopter crash: All six victims are safe, says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: All six victims involved in a helicopter crash near Cameron Highlands are safe, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The six victims comprise a pilot and five people from the Kinta District Health Department.

The Health Minister said that as of 7pm on Wednesday (Oct 26), four victims have been successfully transported from the crash site to the treatment zone.

He added that two have been referred to Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom for further examination while two are still at the treatment zone.

“Meanwhile, the two other victims are being taken out from the crash site to the treatment zone.

“Latest developments will be informed from time to time,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Flying Doctor Unit (FDU) consisting of a medical officer, an assistant medical officer, a nurse, a public health assistant, a community nurse and a pilot were en route to Tanjung Rambutan in Ipoh after completing a routine visit to the Orang Asli village in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

“The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Team, as first responders, reached the scene and are trying to bring down all the victims.

“Two emergency medical teams led by an emergency medical specialist were also mobilised to the scene from Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom,” he said.

Khairy added that all victims would be taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh after assessment is done on their injuries.

“Stable victims will be sent straight to Ipoh while others will be receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom,” he added.

The helicopter had to make an emergency landing at 1pm near Brinchang, Cameron Highlands.

An investigation into why the helicopter had to make an emergency landing is underway.

Khairy will be visiting the crash victims in Ipoh on Thursday (Oct 27).
