At least 7 people have died because heavy rains carry on and lash the traditional western Indian state of Gujarat.
The weather department reports that the “intense wet spell” is likely to continue over the following few days.
A state ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) said around nine, 000 people have been relocated to secure areas.
Photos demonstrated waterlogged streets and overflowing dams and rivers across the state. Transport services were disrupted in several locations.
Many parts of their state have received unusually high rainfall since Sunday. Some of these areas got recorded a deficit in monsoon rain fall until this month, according to Down To Earth , which reports on environmental issues.
Heavy monsoons rains have triggered havoc in Gujarat many times – in 2017, more than 200 people died in floods triggered by unrelenting rain.
According to a govt report , a lot of parts of Gujarat are usually vulnerable to floods because major rivers “pass through a wide stretch of the very flat landscape before reaching the particular sea”.
“These smooth lowlands of lower river basins are susceptible to flooding, ” it adds.
Rajendra Trivedi, Gujarat’s disaster administration minister, said that 63 people have died since 1 June because of “rain-related incidents” like drowning and walls collapsing.
India’s house minister Amit Shah has said that groups of the state and national disaster reaction forces have been used at various locations in Gujarat.
