A Thai Catholic school director disputes the claims that a Burmese area in the state is” slum” as he has been called by a foreign YouTuber.
A recent movie from the YouTube channel Ride with Gabi showing a” Myanmar tenement in Phuket” features a sizable Myanmar immigrant group in the southwestern province, which has sparked discussion.
The film purports to show Myanmar employees living in a remote and underdeveloped area. There is a class whose chairman is a federal from Myanmar and they pay around 3,600 baht per month for rent, including services. The school provides free training, dishes, and air-conditioned schools for the workers ‘ children.
The Good Shepherd Sisters Thailand’s center in Phuket, Lakana Sukhsuchit, who made the comment on the picture, claimed that the area wasn’t a” ghetto” as it was depicted. She noted that the name’s untidiness as a fishing area may be to blame.
” I can ensure that this neighborhood is never a slum, as the YouTuber claimed. It’s simply a group of fishermen who reside close to the sea where they can get fish, according to Sister Lakana.
For more than ten years, The Great Shepherd Sisters have provided education and other assistance to the area. Most of the time, she said, are employed in the fishing industry and can survive on unsustainable incomes.
According to Sister Lakana, 395 students enrolled at the university next month, between 5 and 17 years old. The majority of the kids are Burmese, but some are from the Mon or Karen tribal groups. Some people enter Myanmar’s port city of Dawei.
The center’s education, according to the nun, focuses on teaching Burmese and English, as well as helping immigrant children changeover into Thai schools.
The film reportedly raised safety issues for Thai agencies, according to some press reports. Since Sunday, regional officials have been residing in the area.
Sister Lakana stated that her organization is working to prevent the territory from becoming a problem when immigrant children enter. They can continue to make a positive impact on society by getting excellent training and principles, she said.
