Grace Fu elected as Singapore National Olympic Council president

Grace Fu, the minister for sustainability and the environment, was chosen to lead the Singapore National Olympic Council ( SNOC ) on Friday, January 5.

Ms. Fu was co-opted to serve on the SNOC executive council in October of last year after overseeing Singapore’s game plan as Culture, Community, and Youth Minister from 2015 to 2020. In 2026, she may serve as president of SNOC.

After winning the SNOC unusual public appointment on Friday at the Singapore Sports Hub without opposition, Ms. Fu expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to provide the organization and the Olympic Movement.

” I hope we can keep collaborating with our NSAs ( National Sports Associations ) and other stakeholders to realize our athletes ‘ potential to elevate Singaporean sport to new heights and provide opportunities for them to represent Singapore at important Games.”

Tan Chuan-Jinreresigned from his place as SNOC president in July of last year after it was revealed that he had an illicit relationship with a member of parliament named Cheng Li Hui.

Mrs. Jessie Phua, the most senior vice president in SNOC, was finally chosen to serve as acting president.

According to the SNOC constitution, the vice president who is most older in business will be chosen to serve as acting leader for the president’s existing term if he or she resigns.

Mr. Tan’s term as SNOC president, which began in 2014 and ended with his departure, was set to expire in 2026. &nbsp,

Mrs. Phua will resume her responsibilities as evil president with Ms. Fu’s vote.

Ms. Fu stated,” I would like to express my gratitude for the help of my fellow executive committee members, our National Sports Association members, and Mrs. Jessie Phua for her role as Acting President.”

The SNOC was founded in 1947. It oversees the selection of Singaporean athletes and the nbsp for important competitions like the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Gamess, and Southeast Asia Games.
