GrabCab gets licence to run street-hail service, becoming Singapore’s 6th taxi operator

SINGAPORE: GrabCab may be Singapore’s fifth car operator after it received a licence to operate street-hail solutions. &nbsp,

Announcing this on&nbsp, Wednesday ( Apr 2 ), the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ) said GrabCab will be given a three-year grace period to&nbsp, progressively expand its fleet to meet the minimum requirement of 800 taxis.

It must also assure that its taxis are easily identifiable by street-hail customers, including having a popular top mark and a special costume system.

GrabCab is a company of Grab Rentals and the sister organization of GrabCar, which holds licensing to work ride-hail and car-pool service.

The new street-hail licence will launch on Apr 9 and is appropriate for 10 years. &nbsp,

” GrabCab’s entrance into the street-hail business brings the total number of vehicle operators to six, providing drivers and riders with more options and is expected to boost car offer”, said LTA.

The other recent taxi operators are City Cab, CDG, Prime, Strides and Trans-cab.

As part of the licence conditions, which are similar to those of other car operators, GrabCab&nbsp, must satisfy requirements such as having enough boot space to have a wrapped wheelchair or luggage.

Its street-hail companies must also observe the same car fare framework components as other street-hail operators, said LTA, and its suffer must be prominently displayed so that passengers are informed of the appropriate suffer rates.
